Chongli District, Zhangjiakou is located in the northwest of Hebei Province, the north of the grassland of Inner Mongolia and the south of the mountainous city beyond the Great Wall-Zhangjiakou. It is 220 km away from Beijing. Thanks to several ski resorts built, the skiing items of the 2022 Winter Olympics except alpine skiing and tobogganing will be all carried out in Chongli. The success of applying to organize the Olympic games brings great development opportunities for Chongli and Zhangjiakou. The base is located in the east of Chongli District and the south of Wanlong Road, with a total area of 292.4 hectares. At present, there is a great quantity of unused land and forestry land.

      With the "ice and snow sports" and "Winter Olympics" becoming the theme of the times, the goal of "300 million people participating in ice and snow activities" has brought unprecedented opportunities for the development of the ice and snow sports. Today, Chongli is mainly home to comprehensive middle and high-grade ski resorts, while the family entertainment ski resorts are at a smaller scale. As it is not feasible to build high-grade passages in Huadu Xueyuan, the project captures the parent-child characteristics and provides family-friendly parent-child skiing experience, skiing experience for different levels of skiing fans, skiing supporting experience and snow-village operation in different seasons, (i.e, four major themes). The plans takes the ecology as the priority, sticks to environmental friendliness; highlights snow and ice travel in four seasons; promotes Winter Olympic Games and takes into account the company(i.e, three major principles). It also proposes the space planning strategy featuring harmonious co-existence with the nature, activation of parent-child cultural tourism via public media, building of a sound slow-traffic system through people-vehicle separation, as well as creation of multiple courtyard communication space with traditional Chinese style, so as to create a world-class ski resort for family recreation with unique Chinese characteristics.
